چکیده

The focus of this study is the identical parts robotic cell scheduling problem with m machines under the assumption of process and operational flexibility. A direct consequence of this assumption is a new robot move cycle that has been overlooked in the existing literature. We prove that this new cycle dominates all classical robot move cycles considered in the literature for m1⁄4 2. We also prove that changing the layout from an in-line robotic cell to a robot-centered cell reduces the cycle time of the proposed cycle even further, whereas the cycle times of all other cycles remain the same. For the m-machine case, we find the regions where the proposed cycle dominates the classical robot move cycles, and for the remaining regions present its worst case performance with respect to classical robot move cycles. Considering the number of machines as a decision variable, we also find the optimal number of machines that minimizes the cycle time of the proposed cycle.

A scalarization-based method for multiple part-type scheduling of two-machine robotic systems with non-destructive testing technologies

This paper analyzes the performance of a robotic system with two machines in which machines are configured in a circular layout and produce non-identical parts repetitively. The non-destructive testing (NDT) is performed by a stationary robotic arm located in the center of the circle, or a cluster tool. The robotic arm integrates multiple tasks, mainly the NDT of the part and its transition bet...

A New Solution for the Cyclic Multiple-Part Type Three-Machine Robotic Cell Problem based on the Particle Swarm Meta-heuristic

In this paper, we develop a new mathematical model for a cyclic multiple-part type threemachine robotic cell problem. In this robotic cell a robot is used for material handling. The objective is finding a part sequence to minimize the cycle time (i.e.; maximize the throughput) with assumption of known robot movement. The developed model is based on Petri nets and provides a new method to calcul...

Integrative Cell Formation and Layout Design in Cellular Manufacturing Systems

This paper proposes a new integrative view of manufacturing cell formation and both inter-cell and intra-cell layout problems. Cells formation and their popular bi-directional linear layout are determined simultaneously through a Dynamic Programming algorithm (with the objective of minimizing the inter-cell flow cost under a cell size constraint). This Dynamic Programming algorithm is implement...

A Genetic Algorithm for Solving the Integrated Cell Formation, Layout and Scheduling Problem

Cellular manufacturing systems (CMS) typically comprise a number of manufacturing cells served by a centralized material handling system. Designing such systems includes three major decisions; cell formation (CF), group layout (GL), and group scheduling (GS). Traditionally, these three decisions have been dealt with separately, which has usually lead to less than optimal system performance. In ...
